Good service at Chili's

The boyfriend and I went to Chili's. It was a lunch deal on President's Day. One of the last meals before we headed back to Toronto. The server greeted us both as women (he had long hair), and he'd been getting it all weekend, so he said a bit annoyed, "I'm a man actually." The poor server was apologizing left and right, and I tried to tell her, laughing a bit, "It's fine, he's gotten it all weekend." (So she didn't feel she was the only one. Actually in Japan in the public bath, he was given a women's lockerroom key, and at a restaurant called "Princess.")

So, she brought over some nachos and salsa to make up for it, and we were impressed. Most of the service we'd received all weekend was slow (Outback V-Day dinner, exempted because it's to be expected since it was busy as hell) despite the places not being busy. We thought "Jen" would be the best server for our trip, however she went above and beyond that. She came back instantly the drink cups hit the table, empty. Exactly when the nachos were done, and no plate of food ever waited more than 30 seconds. She made another mistake in the order with the burger, putting in fries instead of cinnamon apples, but even then, she apologized and the apples came out instantly.

When she couldn't come by the table, she went to the side of the bar, and shouted to us, asking if everything was ok, explaining she hadn't had a minute to come by. Maybe some would be insulted and find it unprofessional, but because of her prior actions, her bubbly personality, I didn't think twice. I thought she was doing an amazing job. I wrote her a note on the back of the original receipt explaining how I felt. She's probably the best server we've had in all of North America (and a few other countries, like Japan, Malaysia, South Korea, too). It's such a refreshing change from servers who often assume a young couple, or perhaps "two girls" (which was originally assumed) wouldn't tip them very much, and in turn, gave bad service resulting in a bad tip. Of course we tipped "Jen" amazingly too. :D
